Nomen clature

wondering what MERBOH means?

Well, you’re in the right place so let’s cut to the chase:

(MER) Mercantile | Refers to trade, commerce and/or the exchange of goods. A marketplace where ideas, value, and meaning circulate from one person to the next.

(BOH) Bohemian | A way of living that prioritizes creative freedom. intuition and self-expression. Where experience, emotion and authenticity is valued over social/economic status.

The name MERBOH is derived from two words: mercantile, representing open exchange, and bohemian, representing the creative spirit. I’m not sure how or when the merger (MER + BOH) popped into my head, but the pairing forms a compelling paradox. From a design perspective (particularly interiors), I often gravitate toward materials with sleek and assertive properties (think hard metals) but I also appreciate objects that feel soulful and relaxed (think soft textiles). I remember flipping through a design magazine years ago and staring at a space that embodies this aesthetic beautifully (shown)—The design elements are like science + mathematics (laws & absolutes) mixed with literature + music (freedom & self-expression). Something about it reminds me of the masculine and the feminine in a ratio that favors the former.  I love how the cold metal elements (desk, lamps, bedframe) play with the warm patterned rug, while the creamy walls and bedlinens broker the union (like a moderator) — Brilliant!

Bottom line: MERBOH is synonymous with a conversation, like white noise, there’s always chatter in my work as I love the energy (tension) created when objects with polarizing properties intersect, thereby electrifying (illuminating) the beauty in contrast.
